KnK began operation in September 2000. The management team is based in Tokyo and regularly visits its missions. Volunteers are sent to the field from Japan as Administrator, Coordinator, or Country Representative for six months to two years, and work in close link with the team in Tokyo. Local teams are basically composed of educators and social workers.

The team determines orientations, principles, and methods of implementing activities. The budgets are managed in Tokyo.
